The Media Wants To See Obama vs Trump

This morning, the Obama administration fired a shot right across the bow of the birther movement by publicly releasing a copy of the sought after “long form birth certificate.” This shot was most certainly aimed at the leading voice in the birther movement, Donald Trump. Trump has been daring Obama to pony up the document, and gaining popularity in the process. Obama also made a reference to the birther movement being led by “carnival barkers,” undoubtedly a second political shot aimed at Trump.

I began flipping through the news networks to see the how the different networks were covering the move. I would normally expect Fox News to play this one kinda neutral because they are right leaning and do not want to upset their conservative base. Also, I would have expected MSNBC to cover it as a blow to Trump.

Surprising, the usual left leaning news networks played it surprisingly down the middle. Many of the commentators and anchors were seeming to be promoting both Trump and Obama on their specific strengths. There was a lack of the, “man did Obama really blast Trump on that one,” type comments.

I then realized the sheer genius of what the media is setting up, Trump vs Obama. Just picture it, the highly intelligent, thought out, and carefully spoken Obama versus the crafty, business savvy, extremely outspoken Trump. This would be a true duel of two opposite styles. Trump has the ability to make a bold statement with the confidence and tact to make it stick with an audience. Obama likes to sit back and give his opponents enough rope to hang themselves with.

I hope this fight happens because it would be one for the ages. I think both men would force each other to operate outside of there normal comfort zones in a long campaign. Trump will need to learn to be more selective on his speech and Obama will need to increase his direct attacks. No matter who you like in this fight, from a political strategists point of view, it would be a damn good fight to watch.
