A Paradox In Back To The Future II
After watching Back to the Future Part II for about the millionth time, I notice a possible paradox in the movie. This is way off topic from anything I normally write but I want some feedback on this one.
Here Is The background:
In Back to the Future II, Marty and Doc go to the future to save Marty’s kids from getting into trouble (if you don’t remember this, stop reading now because the rest of this will make no sense). When they are in Marty’s neighborhood in the year 2015, old Biff from the future steals the time machine and goes back to 1965 to give a sports scores almanac to his younger self. This allowed young Biff to bet on any sporting event and never lose. When Marty and Doc return to 1985, they find themselves in an alternate 1985 where Biff runs the world with all of his racebook winnings.
Here is the Problem: When old biff from 2015 returned to 1965 and gave the sports almanac to young Biff, he could have never returned the time machine to Marty and Doc. At that second he would have changed the future. Therefore, when Biff tried to return to 2015, he would have returned to the alternate (evil) 2015. Marty and Doc would have been stranded permanently in the normal 2015 and that would have been the end of the story.
